Why is it important to have an Islamic Will?

“It is a duty of a Muslim who has anything to bequeath not to let two nights pass without including it in his Will.” – Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 4 Book 51 No. 1.

In the UK, if you die without a Will, then your estate is distributed according to the law. This is very different to the fiqh of inheritance outlined in the Quran.

“Prescribed for you when death approaches any one of you if he leaves wealth is that he should make a bequest for parents and near relatives according to what is acceptable a duty upon the righteous.” – Surah Al-Baqarah Ch. 2: V. 180-182.

There is huge importance put on inheritance and providing for your family should you pass away. The Quran outlines the shares that each person should receive.
